Abstract: Information literacy is a lifelong
learning in all the field not only theory and practice , clinically also it is
an important aspects.   Information
literacy is essentials for health science librarians, because information is
become a vital role in the 21st century to provide resources their
users. This study will highlights the importance of information literacy and
tolls for upgrade their knowledge. The present 
study result shows that  of health
science library professionals, is majority 67 (61.47%) out of 109 possessed
MLISc degree, second position is MLISc and M.Phil degree which is consist of 26
(23.85%) and the low rank 2 (1.83%) of this study is MLISc, M.Phil and Ph.D the
responded possesd MLISc degree. responded by
librarian 38 (34.86%) out of 109, followed by Assistant Librarian 29 (26.60%)
and last rank is deputy librarian 4 (3.66%) of this study.

            Information Literacy (IL) is
lifelong learning, it is common to all the people and all the disciplines to
learn of education and information literacy as a set of skills. According to United States National
Forum “IL defines as the ability to know when there is a need for information,
to be able to identify, locate, evaluate and effectively use that information
for the issue or problems at hand”. According to American Library Association
defined that “Information Literacy as a set of abilities requiring individuals
to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate,
evaluate, and use effectively the needed information. In the advance of
technology the people to get access information within a fraction of second”.
What kind of information they need, how much authentic and reliable is that
information, how to access, how to evaluate accessed information and how to
acknowledge the creater of information and finally how to make use of available
information is the major issues will be occurred the people of the society. The
librarian is integral part in the ICT. Most of the time the librarians are
engaged with the users community for rendering service to its users. The ICT
literacy is more required to the librarians too, because Librarian to ability to
operating computer systems to perform personal, job related tasks, use web
browsers and searching on the Internet to retrieve information needs and
communication. Especially the health science librarian should provide
bibliographical database of MELINE service to their users community. To create
awareness about ICT among the users of the patrons, to motivate the users to
learn themselves Subscription of online medical databases and resources and its
services users.

Information literacy Need for health science librarians

            Information literacy is essentials
for health science librarians, because information is become a vital role in
the 21st century to provide resources their users. ICT will full
fill the requirements needs of the community especially in health science
librarians, librarians should equip with ICTs and digital information resources
in the digital libraries. It will enhance service of the library and more
attract of the users community..According this survey majority of the health
science libraries of health science institutions of Karnataka have stat-art of
the infrastructure. The libraries have their own computer section with internet
facilities and 35% in institution in this study provided WiFi facilities to
their users community.

3.Review Literature

A
significant study have been conducted on IL, Haneefa, M.K and Shukkoor, A. K
(2010) on information and communication technology literacy among library
professionals in Calicut University, Kerala. The author has applied
questionnaire tool to obtained information on IL, In this study, the author
found that Professionals assistants are acquired more ICT literacy skills among
the other library professionals and use of digital library and institutional
repository software is very low among the library professionals.

S.Y and Viswe, R.R (3017) conducted a study on literacy among library
professionals working in the University Libraries in Maharastar, India. The
author applied structured questionnaire, overview of this study ICT literacy based
on resources services and tool. Majority of library professionals have acquired
basic ICT literacy skills and which is required day to day library operations.
Few library professionals need to enhance their literacy level on open source
library automation software, Digital Library software and IR software. So author
